DEPARTMENT OF FOREST ECONOMICS
In Turkey, the origin of Department of Forest Economics goes back to ‘the Institute of Forest Yield and Management Economics’ which was established in 1934 at the Faculty of Forestry depends on the Higher Institute of Agriculture. In the year of 1948, Faculty of Forestry connected to the Istanbul University and thus The Institute has converted to the Chair; In 1977, Forest Mensuration and Management Economics Chair has divided and then Department of Forestry Economics, Forestry Law and Forest Yield and Biometrics have been founded. These disciplines are under the Department of Forest Economics in our Faculty.
Scientific interests of the Department of Forest Economics are extending wide variety of topics: all economic and social development related to forest resources, economic and social analyzes of all the functions contained in the forestry, all sectoral developments which are interact with forest resources, determining the value of forestry goods and services or nonmarket values, from social forestry to afforestation-environment-fire economics.
Department of Economics in the Faculty of Forestry was one of the nine departments of Ankara University on the establishment of the Çankırı Faculty of Forestry by the decision of Council of Ministers No. 94/6138 date and 24/08/1994 and began its operations in the academic year 1996-1997. In 2002 with the its first master`s degree graduate student, the department has started graduate studies.
