The “Rooting for the Future: The Seed and Nursery Sector Speaks” event, organized by the Nature and Camping Club of Çankırı Karatekin University, was held on May 7, 2026, at the Faculty of Science Conference Hall.
The event brought together approximately 80 second-, third-, and fourth-year students of the Faculty of Forestry, academic staff members, and representatives from the General Directorate of Forestry. Among the distinguished guests were Mr. Alpaslan Altındaş, Deputy Head of the Department of Seed and Nursery Affairs, and Mr. Tayfun Kurt, Head of the Nursery Allocation and Marketing Division.
Organized under the motto “Every seed is a future, every sapling is a breath of life,” the event aimed to provide students with firsthand insights into Türkiye’s seed and nursery sector, afforestation strategies, and sustainable forest management practices. Participants had the opportunity to learn about the journey from seed collection and processing to seedling production and large-scale afforestation activities.
During the interactive question-and-answer session, students engaged directly with sector representatives, gaining valuable knowledge about professional opportunities, current challenges, and future developments in forestry. Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of cooperation among public institutions, local communities, and young people in supporting afforestation efforts and environmental sustainability.
The event contributed significantly to students’ professional development by enhancing their understanding of the seed and nursery sector and strengthening their awareness of the role forests play in sustainable development and environmental conservation.
