DEPARTMENT OF FOREST BOTANY
With the decree dated on 24.08.1994 and numbered ‘’94/6138’’ of the council of ministers, Çankırı Forestry Faculty was founded by depending on Ankara University. The faculty went into action on the academic year of 1996-1997 and produced its first school leavers in 2000.
On the date of 07.02.1997, Gökhan ABAY who started his duty as research assistant in Çankırı Forestry Faculty of Ankara University, entitled to get the degree of ‘’Doctor’’ in 2001 by entering PhD program in the department (Botany) of Biology of Institute of Science of Ankara University in 1997. In 2004, he became first faculty member of the department of Forest Botany by having being appointed to ‘’Assistant Professor’’. In 2007, he was appointed as the head of the department of Forest Botany, as well. Abay who got the degree of Associate Professor in December, 2008, was appointed as Professor in January, 2014. Abay has been appointed to Department of Plant Materials and Propagation Techniques, Division of Landscape Architecture, Faculty of Fine Arts, Design and Architecture, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University; form Department of Forest Engineering, Division of Forest Botany, Faculty of Forest Engineering, Çankırı Karatekin University in November 2014.
Later, on the department of Forest Botany, whether she started his duty with Gamze ERTUĞRUL on the date 27.07.2009, she still keeps her studies on Plant Taxonomy and Ethnobotany. Whether as Assist. Prof. Dr., Serhat URSAVAŞ was appointed to the department of Forest Botany on the date 11.05.2012, he still keeps his studies on Bryophytes Taxonomy grouped in seedless plants. In Kızıldağ National Park, Serhat URSAVAŞ discovered a new kind of bryophyte belonging to genus of Cinclidotus. He named this new-discovered taxon as ‘’Cinclidotus asumaniae’’ for the memory of Prof. Dr. Asuman EFE, faculty member of department of Forest Botany of Forestry Faculty of Istanbul University, who passed away because of traffic accident happened in Bolu in 2010.
On the department of Forest Botany: whether Introduction to Forest Botany, Angiospermae, Gymnospermae, Tree Physiology, Weed, Plant Biodivesity, Nonwood Forest Products are taught as bachelor courses, also post-graduate courses are taught.
On department of Forest Botany, a professor, an assistant professor, a research assistant serves.
LABORATORY
In the laboratory of Forest Botany within the scope of the department of Forest Botany: 10 pcs LEICA CME light microscopes, 1 pcs OLYMPUS CX21 light microscope, 1 pcs OLYMPUS CHK light microscope, 1 pcs OLYMPUS BX50 light microscope, 1 pcs LEICA EZ4HD stereo microscope and 1 pcs LEICA S6T stereo microscope are available for student use. Moreover, 1 pcs OLYMPUS SZ40 stereo and 1 pcs OLYMPUS CX31 light microscope, which are connected to PCs and are capable of photographing specimens which are prepared in slide, are available.
